Ingredients
The Basics:
•1 lb ground beef (80/20 is the sweet spot for flavor)
•2 tablespoons soy sauce (swap in tamari if you’re gluten-free)
•1 tablespoon sesame oil
•3 garlic cloves, minced
•1 teaspoon fresh ginger, minced
•2 green onions, chopped (keep a bit extra for garnish)
•Salt and pepper, to taste
•Steamed rice (jasmine, basmati, or brown – your choice!)
Optional Add-Ons (if you’re feeling fancy):
•Fried egg on top
•Steamed or stir-fried veggies (broccoli, carrots, peppers, spinach)
•Sesame seeds, cucumber slices, kimchi, or pickled veggies
Instructions
1. Brown the Beef:
•Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat.
•Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it apart, until browned (about 5-7 minutes). Drain extra fat if needed.
2. Add Flavor:
•Stir in garlic and ginger, cooking for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
•Pour in soy sauce and sesame oil, stir well, and toss in the green onions.
•Season with salt and pepper to taste. Let it all simmer together for a couple of minutes.
3. Cook the Rice:
•Rinse 1 cup of rice under cold water.
•Stove: Combine with 2 cups water, bring to a boil, cover, reduce heat, and simmer for 15 minutes. Rest for 5 minutes, then fluff.
•Rice Cooker or Instant Pot: Follow your usual method.
4. Build Your Bowl:
•Spoon a base of fluffy rice into a bowl.
•Add a generous portion of the savory beef.
•Top with any extras: a fried egg, fresh veggies, sesame seeds, or kimchi.
Notes
Customize Your Bowl:
•Spicy? Add Sriracha or a dollop of gochujang (Korean chili paste).
•Protein Swap: Try ground turkey, chicken, or a plant-based option.
•Extra Veggies: Stir-fry zucchini, mushrooms, or snap peas.
Serving & Leftovers:
•Serve with a side of pickled veggies or a light cucumber salad.
•Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
